Description
Do you believe in mermaids? The fishermen certainly do.
They hear them gently calling in the middle of the night and watch them frolic with the dolphin during the day. But, it isn't until a horrible storm arises that threatens the fishermen's lives, when they experience the magical reality of their existence.
Yet, no one else believes they exist, causing the fishermen to wonder, "Do the mermaids only appear to the fishermen of the sea?"

A fisherman’s tale?
An enchantingly recounted story of the harsh life of a trawler crew, braving the elements to catch and land fish.
The author relates the realities of the elements at play and captures the beauty of the mighty sea and the wide ocean both in fierce storms and tranquil calm. The lure of the elements enhanced by sights, smells and sounds, pictured between glorious sunrises and majestic sunsets.
The book is wonderfully illustrated with full page pictures in vivid colour, reinforcing and supporting the text.
The author is a true story-teller and her narration will capture the hearts of all who read and listen to the enfolding story of life a sea. Child and adult both.
The dangers of a fisherman’s way of life are brought home as well. Disaster strikes their boat as in rough weather the ship is dashed upon rocks some 3 miles from shore.
Previously, just the subject of their half conscious minds, as sleep beckoned them between shifts on the boat. The fantasy of mermaids is brought home to them as three mermaids rescue the crewmen just as the water was overwhelming them. They are miraculously brought to the shore, exhausted and forever bound to the courage and care of mermaids.
Yet the coastguard and others will not credit such a tall story or believe in the reality of mermaids. Will you ?
Only if you read this marvellous book mind!

A beautifully written fisherman’s tale, sharing the true nature of the sea, and the secrets only fisherman hold on the truth of mermaids. The writer narrates this story so beautifully capturing all the realities of life out in the sea, from the things you’ll see out there to the harsh and treacherous conditions by being out there.
This was such a beautiful read, the full page hand drawn illustrations were stunning and worked perfectly to enhance the story that you were reading. I loved the style of the story it was beautiful and full of wonder, sharing the story from the perspective of daughter of a fisherman and how he father loved what he did, and sharing all the stories he brought home to his family, why he was called to what he did and the secrets of the sea only he knew.
This is wonderful read that children would really enjoy and the adults reading with the children would enjoy too, it’s creatively written, beautifully illustrated and leaves you with so much wonder once you’ve finished and you feel the magic and love of the story.
The first thing I noticed about this book was the full page, beautiful illustrations. They really stood out and were very pretty and very effective.
The story itself told the story about fishermen and explained in detail what they did, and what certain things were called and went on to explain how the crew of 3 were all rescued by mermaids after their ship capsized.
Great read that I feel would be very appealing to children
The illustrations were really pretty in this book. I'd guess the age range would be something like age 5+. I liked this book, it was educational a bit, family oriented, and mystical with the mermaid aspect of the book. After reading, I'd say, yes I do believe!
This was a fun concept for a children’s fiction book, the illustrations worked with the story and had that beauty that I was looking for. The characters had that feel that I wanted and enjoyed the story being told. Judith M. Ackerman wrote this well and I enjoyed what I read.
This is a cute story about a fisherman and how he and his crew were saved by mermaids. The one critique I do have is that the drawing on page 23 of the mermaid looks very unnatural.

4 out of 5
The first thing I want to talk about is the absolutely gorgeous illustrations throughout the entirety of the short, but interesting children's book. The story tells of a father who is a fisherman that shares stories with his child about all the fish and the beauty of the ocean.
This would be a great story for any child who loves mermaids or has a father that likes to fish. It would be fantastic in any library at a school or even a home library.
I love mermaids so this was pandering for me, lmao.
Beautiful pictures of mermaids in this, its worth it just for that.
Amazing story of fishermen and their love for the sea, complete with the tales of mermaids which have been told by fisherman in every sea and in every time.
The illustrations by Kristina Wheeat are so very well drawn, simple, colorful, and expressive.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!

A fisherman shares tales of the sea with his daughter, describing its beauty, the harsh conditions of life on the ocean and all of its mysteries. The story explores the allure and dangers of life as a trawler crew member and highlights the fantasy of mermaids, brought to life during a storm when mermaids rescue the crew after their ship is wrecked.
4 stars!
The illustrations in The Fisherman and the Mermaids are stunning, vivid, and majestic. The pictures are simple, colorful, and expressive, capturing the ocean's beauty and the magic of mermaids. The realities of life at sea are expressed through images of storms and shipwreck and the crew members floating in the water during their mermaid rescue. The fishermen believe in their rescuers and are forever bound to the legend. This story is excellent for children who love mermaids or who simply love the ocean (shout out to seaside communities raising kids on beaches!).
