Description

Stars Hollow meets Charmed in this darkly funny, small-town paranormal romcom... Love doesn't get much more forbidden than this.

In the quirky, tight-knit town of Sapphire Springs, beloved for its chocolate-caramel milkshakes and spicy senior citizens’ book club, Rune Whitlock has always felt like an outsider. Gifted with the ability to see the future but cursed to have no one believe her premonitions, she’s accepted that romance isn’t in the cards. She’s got a cozy cottage, a fulfilling graphic design career, a loyal best friend, and Valentine—the sweet rescue kitty who is definitely not her familiar. So what if she’s sometimes lonely?

But everything changes when she meets Donovan Frost. A brilliant, brooding data engineer, Donovan is everything Rune is not: methodical, reserved, logical. He’s also grumpy, judgmental, and 5-chili-peppers hot. Thrown together on a mysterious work project, the two clash spectacularly—until an unexpected connection ignites between them.

Then, Rune’s gift reveals a chilling truth: they are destined for each other, but their love story is doomed to end in tragedy on their wedding day. To protect Donovan, Rune must push him away, even if it breaks her heart. But the harder she tries, the more entangled they become. As dark forces conspire against them and secrets come to light, Rune must unravel the mystery of her curse…before it’s too late.

This book was so fun! I really enjoyed the setting of Sapphire Springs and the cast of supporting characters. The Sinsters? Iconic. Rune was a compelling main character and I liked the mystery element of the magic and how it evolved as the story progressed. Her chemistry with Donovan was electric and swoon worthy. The ending was great and definitely kept me on my toes!

I went into Cursed in Love expecting a cozy romcom with a dash of magic, but Emily Colin delivered so much more. While the book is packed with charm, humor, and swoon-worthy romance, it also has serious stakes and emotional depth that took me by surprise. Rune’s backstory is tough (the content warnings are definitely there for a reason), but these moments never detract from the magic of the story—they only make it richer.

Rune is an amazing protagonist: quirky, fiercely independent, and endearingly awkward in a town where Big Brother-scale gossip blogs ensure she can’t so much as slip without everyone knowing. (I could never live in Sapphire Springs, but the town is certainly a character of its own.) Her “curse” is fascinating—being able to see the future but never be believed? Perfectly woven into the plot. And then there’s Donovan Frost. Imagine Henry Cavill as a grumpy data engineer with a spreadsheet obsession, and you’ve got him. The chemistry between Rune and Donovan? Absolutely sizzling. So honestly, I couldn’t blame the town for shipping them so hard.

What I loved most, though, is how the book constantly kept me on my toes. Just when I thought I had the story figured out, Colin threw in a twist that had me gasping. And when it all came together at the end? Wow. Brilliant!

As a longtime fan of Colin’s romantasy (The Sword of the Seven Sins trilogy, Fate and Fury), I was curious to see how her signature style would translate to a contemporary setting, and she nailed it. This book has her trademark elements: magical curses, badass female leads, unexpected plot twists, and moments of awakening. Somehow, she’s packed all the essence of romantasy into the quirks and chaos of “real life,” and it’s pure magic.

Cursed in Love has everything: romance, magic, high stakes, low stakes, and a heartfelt story about a woman learning to come into her own power -- all while falling for the grumpy coworker. Highly recommend for fans of Charmed, quirky small towns, and love stories that’ll make you laugh, cry, and believe in magic.

This was absolutely precious. Light hearted but one of the coziest books I’ve read lately. I think it’s a perfect mix of Gilmore Girls meets Charmed and I love that description for it, matches perfectly.

I devoured Cursed in Love by Emily Colin in one day- it was too good to put down. What I thought was just going to be a paranormal-romcom had me sucked in with so many twist and turns!
Rune is a graphic designer who lives in the small town of Sapphire Springs. She’s had a troubled past and has grown up a bit of an outsider. It doesn’t help that she’s cursed. Rune has premonitions of death but unfortunately is also cursed to have no one believer. (Alexa play The Albatross and Casandra by Taylor Swift).
Rune is typically WFH but has been called into the office for an urgent project where she’s paired with Donovan Frost, a data engineer. It’s immediately clear that Rune and Donovan are opposites on so many levels but with her career on the line Rune does her best to win over Donovan.
Unfortunately for her, her curse goes into overdrive.

This book was SO fun and literally had me laughing out loud. The romance category can often be predictable, but I truly did not see where this book was heading. The small town shenanigans were so funny and I love the idea of a group of little old ladies spreading gossip and havoc across town. Our characters definitely go from zero to “I’d catch a grenade from ya” but it works for this books plot. If was being super critically, I think the FMC exclamation of “Sweet purple peonies” was a little overused, but it still didn’t deter me from using it this post and photo.

Thank you to Black Orchid Books and NetGalley for the ARC of Cursed in Love in exchange for an independent review.

I'm really not sure where to begin, but I figured I should start with the fact that I absolutely loved everything about this book! Rune and Donovan are now one of my favorite book couples. For me, this booked checked all the boxes.
-Small town witchy vibe
-Enemies to lovers
-Forced proximity
-Grumpy MMC
-Hilarious FMC that kept me laughing over and over
-Mysterious intriguing plot that did not seem fake or forced
-Captivating storyline that kept me hooked throughout the entire book

I do mean it when I say that this book is hilarious on so many levels. The commentary provided by Rune and her banter with Donovan kept things so light hearted and I appreciated her witty humor so much. The storyline was fast paced and I appreciated that the author just kept things moving and I was never bored. I'm a lover of all things witchy romance, and this one was just a home run. If you enjoyed similar titles such as This Spells Love by Kate Robb or The Ex Hex trilogy by Erin Sterling, then you will surely appreciate Cursed in Love and I would highly encourage you to pick it up on Valentine's Day this year (how adorable)!

“ That’s the nature of my curse: to see the future at unpredictable times and never, ever be believed. Me in a Nutshell: Rune Whitlock, Unreliable Seer, Graphic Designer, and now, Professional Cop-Tackler.”

This sweet, cozy, slightly spicy romance is a retelling of the Cassandra mythology with a twist. I absolutely loved this entire book! It is a grumpy/sunshine rivals to lovers story. I enjoyed how even when Donovan was angry and didn’t think he could truly trust Rune, he was still so protective of her. Sapphire Springs reminds me of Stars Hollow with its quirky residents. In fact, town book club is like a group of Miss Patties. They’re called the Sinsters and they read smutty romance novels and gossip about the rest of the town. The story was full of fun moments and banter, secrets, and plot twists. I really hope that this is going to be a series because I cannot get enough Sapphire Springs!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“You make me feel, Rune. Sometimes I hate you for it. But mostly...mostly, I just want more. More of the unpredictability and danger and, yeah, chaos that's come into my life since the moment you stepped into the elevator with me. More of you."

This is an ARC review and this book releases February 14th.

This is a small town, paranormal, contemporary romance following Rune, a graphic designer with the power to see the future and Donovan, a seemingly frosty, data engineer who Rune is forced to spend time alongside on a work project. The two clash constantly and can’t seem to agree on anything but still are inexplicably drawn to eachother. As their connection is growing Rune’s gift shows her a cursed tragedy in their future, making her determined to push Donovan away to protect them both but this is easier said than done, as she works to solve the mystery of her past.

You know when you just need a perfect rom com and something totally delivers? When I read ‘stars hollow meets charmed’ my heart jumped for joy as this is all the cozy, magic goodness plus a hearty dash of mystery I needed and it was bloody brilliant, I was cackling for most of the book. I very much want to live in Sapphire Springs and sip on caramel chocolate milkshakes while reading spicy novels for book club. A dreamy, feel good read with all the small town, cozy, witchy vibes and Rune was a relatable and hilarious FMC, with a traumatic past that added layers and depth to her. Donovan grew on me more than I expected and I ended up loving the pair and the plot heavy romance full of humour and wonderful characters in a perfect setting plus I absolutely adored Emily’s writing style - it was so devourable.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving this review. All opinions are my own.

In this story, we follow Rune Whitlock, a graphic designer who has the ability to see the future, yet nobody believes her. She has accepted that romance is not for her, and she is completely fine living with her cat, Valentine, who is definitely NOT a familiar. This changed when she met Donovan Frost, a grumpy and judgemental data engineer, for a work project. Rune’s gift reveals that their love story is doomed to be a tragedy, and she must unravel the mystery before it's too late.

This book genuinely had me so invested in the characters. I love Greek mythology, and the fact that Rune’s curse is based on Cassandra is one of my favorite things. I also adore Donovan with everything in my heart; he may be one of my new favorite MMCs. Also, I cannot get over the Sisters; I would love to be an old lady in a spicy book club when I am old. This book genuinely had me laughing out loud at some points. Oh my god, the twists. I usually can see a twist coming, and I expected none of them and loved them at every turn. This is probably one of the best witchy romances I have read in a while, and I had the best time with it. It managed to be everything I wanted it to be and more.

Cursed in Love had me hooked from the first chapter. This enchanting story follows Rune, who possesses the power of premonition, as she falls head over heels for Donovan. As Rune grapples with her visions of the future, she faces the ultimate challenge: can she prevent the love of her life from meeting a tragic end?

This cute witchy rom-com is packed with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. If you're a fan of romance, comedy, and witches, Cursed in Love should be your next read. I look forward to reading more of Emily Colin’s books. I’d like to extend my gratitude to NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Sweet purple ponies I loved this book! It was such a cozy, quick, sweet & entertaining read. I couldn’t put it down!

Rune Whitlock has the ability to see the future, but the curse of no one believing her. Although she has always felt like an outsider, she is content in her life with her best friend and cat Valentine. All of that changes when she meets the icy Donovan Frost. He’s as beautiful as he is frustrating. When they are forced to work together on a project, they realize opposites really do attract. Rune thinks she finally may have caught a break, until her premonition shows that not only are they fated mates, their love is the cause of Donovan’s death. Rune keeps Donovan at arms length to try and protect him, but as secrets unfold and everything comes to light, she learns nothing is as simple as it seems.
