Description

With tons of action and a savage anti-heroine; fans of Mass Effect, Terminator, Battlestar Galactica, or even The Walking Dead will love this tale.

Bishop died ending a ten-year war that nearly wiped out Humanity entirely. Or so she and the rest of the galaxy believed. Thirty years later, she’s awakened to rumors the enemy has returned.

But Bishop is not what survivors imagined. She’s not a paragon or even a true soldier. She’s a former convict and raider whose sole claim to history is based not in heroism, but in battle lust and sheer defiance. Her intensity is intimidating to all but the team sent to help her complete her mission.

Among them stands the son of her former lover, Ares. This shadow of her partner torments her as much as the villainous AI, which hounds their every step and has come to hunt her by name.

Bishop’s world is a decrepit ruin of Humanity’s former glory. Old friends are everything, and newcomers untested pups who stand little chance against the monstrous enemy and its Constructs. Bishop feels she’s the only one truly prepared for the brutality to come, but despite her contempt, she cannot face it alone. Shattering revelations aside, one thing remains unchanged: Bishop would rather die fighting than run.

Advance Praise

"This book is easily one of my top reads of the year. The author did such an amazing job... I was drawn into this world immediately. Bishop, the FMC, and I became bffs after she spoke her first sentence. This is a strong FMC that I would want to hang out with IRL. I loved her humor and don't give a fudge attitude. I felt like the author didn't bog us down with too much information in regards to this futuristic world. .... It's not often that an author can pull so much emotion from me and I read a lot of books. I was wrecked at the end of this book and hours later, I'm still trying to recover. If I could give it more stars I would. This is a serious underhyped book that needs more exposure!!" --Jenny, Goodreads

"I physically cannot write into words how amazing this book was! I will recommend it to all my friends! the world building and character development are top tier. Truly a hidden gem! I would give my firstborn to be able to read this book again for the first time!" --Bebe, Amazon Reader

"Captivating. Riveting. Bishop lured me in, ensnared me, and wouldn't let me go. Not that I was putting up much of a fight. A mesmerizing book - I just couldn't put it down." --Phil, Amazon Reader

Book Fort Rating: 5 Stars
Is it building the Book Fort? Bishop literally runs the place, are you kidding?

I really do not give out five-star reads that often, and certainly not usually for indie titles.

But BISHOP by Brit Knight is something special - my five-star reads are reserved for books that fundamentally altered my life in some measure, or books I know I'll be coming back to over and over again. BISHOP is firmly the latter: an emotional and action-packed romp through the cosmos, with a stellar romance subplot to boot. It's the kind of book that sneaks up on you, seemingly just an action packed sci-fi, only to heavy hit with questions about love, trauma, and life purpose. Tellingly, there came a certain point in the novel where I physically could not put it down until I knew how it was going to end (and even then... I finished it first).

So here's what I loved:
- Even though BISHOP contains a romance, this is not the "smack you over the head and take over the story" romance. It is, however, the "deeply traumatize you and simultaneously make you fall in love" tragic romance, and I ate. It. Up.
- BISHOP delicately (if Bishop could ever be delicate) handles major themes around loss, trauma, war, and (arguable) immortality. What kind of person do we become, if all we have ever known is loss and trauma? How does it color the way we view the world and the people around us?
- The characterization in this novel is stellar. Each character has a clear and discernible personality, with noticeable layers and complexity. No small feat for any writer.
- The plot twist. The plot twist??? The plot twist. I'll leave it there.

What I didn't like:
- If anything, I do feel the book suffered a bit in pacing - sections of the book did seem slow, and others were very quick (give me more Bishop and love interest heart-to-hearts!). This is not unexpected with an indie novel, however, and I do not feel that the plot truly suffered for this.

This book was simultaneously so fun and also impactful. Brit Knight does a truly remarkable job exploring the world of Bishop and her AI enemies. I truly look forward to reading more of her work, and eventually seeing this book get the traditional publishing treatment.

Thank you to NetGalley and Brit Knight for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

🔥 5 Stars – Savage Sci-Fi Action with an Anti-Heroine You’ll Love!

Okay, BISHOP by Brit Knight absolutely wrecked me in the best way possible. If you love gritty, action-packed sci-fi with badass characters, intense battles, and a world that feels like Mass Effect meets Battlestar Galactica with a touch of The Walking Dead—you NEED this book.

Bishop isn’t your typical hero. She’s a former convict and war legend, but not because she was noble—nope, she survived through sheer ferocity and battle instincts. Thirty years after she died, she’s back, and the enemy she thought was gone is creeping in again. The problem? No one is as ready for the fight as she is. Watching her take charge of a team who have NO idea what they’re walking into was so satisfying. She’s ruthless, sharp, and has zero patience for nonsense.

The found family dynamic? Chef’s kiss. I loved how rough their connections started and how trust (and tension 👀) built over time. And the AI villain? Legit terrifying. Every confrontation had my heart racing.

Oh, and let’s talk about that plot twist. The one that left me staring at my wall in shock. The one that personally attacked me. Yeah. I’m still recovering.

If you love high-stakes sci-fi, morally gray characters, and stories that hurt so good, BISHOP is 100% for you. Read it. Then come scream about it with me. 🚀🔥

Final Verdict: BISHOP is a high-octane, gut-punch of a book that I devoured and immediately wanted more of. Absolutely recommend! 💀🚀

I cannot overstate how much everyone should read this book. I am not normally a sci-fi reader but this book made me want to read more of the genre. If I can only convince you to read one book this year it would be this one. Please do yourself a favor and read this. Someday soon a big publisher is gonna discover this and you will kick yourself for not reading sooner!!!! If you like strong women and save the world stories then this one is for you! An emotional rollercoaster of a book!!! GO READ IT!!!!
