Description

The next four years are going to be difficult. Those of us who did not vote for this President are deeply concerned about the direction in which this country is now headed.

I was asking myself, “What can I really do?” Through the creation of this book I have come to realize that I am actively participating in resistance every day.

Most importantly, through my work in publishing, I am supporting artistic and literary expression that examines the perils of our current trajectory, speaks of a different approach to governance, and outlines effective approaches to political and social activism.

THE BOOK OF EVERYDAY RESISTANCE is a collection of essays about what we can do to resist, how we resist, and why we resist.

It features voices of all ages who are resisters, including politicians, writers of every genre, prominent public figures, firefighters, teachers, medical professionals, librarians, lawyers, and students.

The purpose of this book is to let us all know we are not alone, and that we are part of a large community of common purpose. Hopefully, with this book we will inspire each other and give each other ideas about how to resist those forces that seek to shut down our work toward a more progressive, inclusive society.

Indie Publisher Releases FREE Essay Collection on Protest, THE BOOK OF EVERYDAY RESISTANCE

New York, NY: (March 28, 2025) Riverdale Avenue Books, the award-winning Bronx indie publisher, has collected essays, editorial cartoons, and poetry from best-selling authors, journalists, teachers, firefighters, and parents about how they are finding sanity and community through everyday acts of resistance.
Riverdale Avenue Books’ Publisher Lori Perkins, a former NYU adjunct professor of journalism, wondered how she could do more to make her resistance to the policies that were being enacted and the attitudes that were being expressed under the new regime. Perkins realized that she was actively participating in resistance every day in both subtle and larger ways and she was sure there were many just like her.
Said Perkins, “The purpose of this book is to let us all know we are not alone, and that we are part of a large community of common purpose. Hopefully, with this book we will inspire each other and give each other ideas about how to resist those forces that seek to shut down our efforts toward a more progressive, inclusive society.”
THE BOOK OF EVERYDAY RESISTANCE is available FREE in digital form on Amazon, iTunes, Kobo, Google+, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords and wherever ebooks are uploaded (including your local library). A trade paperback edition will be available in bookstores and online for $20.99.
The book will be updated periodically. New essays and/or editorial cartoons can be sent to Perkins at lori@riverdaleavebooks.com.

I would highly recommend this collection of essays to anyone who is in need of some hope, perspective, or encouragement at this point in history. It felt like exactly what I needed to read right now. The essays are all of manageable length and high quality. They are written by a wide variety of authors. You will not regret investing your time in this read.

Note: Before the ARC goes to final print, I would recommend in the essay where the author describes not capitalising 'trump', 'maga', etc, that this preference is made consistent in the editing process in-text, as I think this would lend more weight to the author's words.

Thank you for offering me the opportunity to ARC this text in exchange for an honest review.
