Description
Will Fortescue is a Royalist, fighting at the heart of the English Civil War.

When he rescues a young woman from his enemy’s camp, she rewards him with a token of jewellery.

Sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit he is rescued by the mysterious Master Cosmas who makes him Prince Rupert’s messenger.
But treachery is at work, and black magic too, and before Will realises what is happening his attempts to serve his Prince and repay Master Cosmas have landed him at the heart of a treasonous plot.
Unknowing of the plot, the Prince grows fond of Will.
But when the Prince is finally confronted with the plot, Will must persuade Rupert into treachery or save him from the men who would make him a King.
