Description
Though piracy's golden age was in the 1700s, many still long for a life searching for treasure. From famous pirates like Blackbeard and Captain Kidd, to precious plunder like Spanish coins and colorful jewels, to the less glamorous tasks of climbing dangerous ropes or cleaning dirty decks, Inside Out: Pirate Ship takes you deck by deck into the scourge of the sea. Get a fascinating glimpse into how these crews lived, worked, and attacked. You will be amazed by everything from the sky-high crow's nest, to the billowing sails, to the teeny-tiny sleeping quarters.
When it comes to hidden treasure, there's always somewhere else to look!
The Inside Out series also includes: Inside Out: Human Body, Inside Out: Shark, Inside Out: T-Rex, Inside Out: Mummy, Inside Out: Horse, and Inside Out: Medieval Castle.

What a fun book for kids! The pictures to text ratio are pretty appropriate for elementary school age! Lots of fun facts and not too gruesome. Would make a great gift for little pirates!
This is so full of pirate facts not only about the ships but about famous pirates and the pirate way of life. Illustrations throughout the book were very well done and kept he eyes on the pages. I think anyone upper grade school and older will enjoy this book of facts.
Paul Beck’s ‘Inside Out: Pirate Ship’ is a perfect book for any young reader interested in the golden age of piracy. While brief, the book offers an overview of the important aspects of the pirate’s life: from useful terminology and information about what ships the pirates have used to interesting anecdotes about well-known pirates.
‘Inside Out: Pirate Ship’ gives a glimpse into a pirate’s lives both through brief descriptions and illustrations giving a young reader a chance to imagine better the golden age of piracy. Despite being short, the book contains a lot of information and gives a reader a nudge into the right direction should they wanted to find out more.
This is a fun way for kids to learn about pirates and their ships plus I liked that it was part of a series. I bought this book for our library because I think the kids will really enjoy the graphics and details in the book and they will be learning about something!
Inside Out Pirate Ship by Paul Beck was a fun fact book about pirates.
I think this is a great children’s book. It has a great ratio of pictures to facts. Nothing was super gruesome and child friendly. Even as an adult I had fun reading this and learning something.
I will be recommending this to my library for purchase.
I received an electronic advanced reader copy from Quarto Publishing- Becker & Mayer through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.
Amazing addition for any classroom or family library. The pictures are really well done and eye-catching. Many of my students are fans of pirates at the moment because of a popular tv children's show that recently released. I'm sure they will love this book! The writing is concise with tons of interesting facts and information. It's a fun and informative read!
Beck's fantastic book is reminiscent of the old cross-section books by Biesty. Every page is filled with highly detailed illustrations and snippets of information about pirates, ships, and life at sea. This book will keep readers reading and asking more questions. A must-have for all young knowledge seekers.
Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – becker & mayer! for the opportunity to read an advance reading copy.
Fly Your Pirate Flag
This is a short book, only 8 double-page spreads, but it has a lot of information about what makes up a pirate ship... and actually more information about what it was like to live as a pirate. Because of the length of the book, the book goes wide but not deep. But that's fine, as the author shares so many interesting bits of info. We see different pirate flags of a few famous pirates. A fair amount of time, too, is spent on pirate language; I was surprised to see how many phrases we use in modern times came from the old days of piracy or the origin of pirate terms like buccaneer. A couple of sentences are given about the well-known pirates, famous battles, and pirate ship sinkings. The different types of crew members are discussed. I loved how the drawings showed the different parts of the ship, with arrows pointing to specific points with information given about it right there. I read a fair amount of historical fiction, so it was nice to see the parts of ships that I had only read about. The next time I read a story that features a historical ship, I'll be much better able to visualize it from just the words given! So, as you can tell, this book is fun for adults as well as kids. If there's someone in your family who has an interest in pirates, she or he could find this book a lot of fun.
This book is spectacular!
It is very detailed in every aspect of a ship but also the good and bad points of being a pirate. Any kid who wants to know more will certainly appreciate the information as well as the graphics. This book would certainly be one to read in preparation for Talk Like a Pirate Day in September.
