Great little book for beginners in crochet or to amigurumi, full of lovely and cute patterns that are basic and simple so not to scare anyone new, the instructions are clear and in plain English, there are also great pictured step by step instructions at the beginning for some of the stitches. Brightly presented and appealing this is a great lit crochet book
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
The patterns are written in US terms and are by several designers. I loved the wide range of animals available. Some with cute accessories. I found the instructional photos for both the stitches and the toys clear and easy to understand and ideal as a reference if you need help.
Each toy has a colour code of what colours are used for each toy. Which is great so you can prepare. They don't use a particular brand, just a type, which gives you more freedom of choice.
The instructions are clear and easy to follow. I class myself as intermediate at crochet that can read patterns. I would recommend this book to a confident beginner because there are only a few basic stitches used.
Overall this is a great book that covers lots of fun animals and would be a great addition to your crochet stash.
Wonderful cute animals. Very clear instructions, easy to follow and fairly easy too. A good book for both those starting to crochet and those more accomplished.
There are some really cute animals in this book that I haven't seen other places. The beaver is adorable. I love the little birds in the nest, my grandson loves birds so I'll make them for him. The instructions with pictures are a great asset.
A really wonderful book that has the cutest designs!!! The crochet patterns were very easy to follow especially for a beginner! the photos were very helpful as well as the diagrams added in at the back!! I recommend this for crocheters as well as beginners! Super fun
The animals in this book are adorable. There are many illustrations and step by step directions to make a wide range of creatures from all parts of the world. The stitches are explained and the materials are laid out nicely so that one can go shopping for everything before starting a project. These can decorate one's home or be given to children as play things.
A nice little book giving instructions for a wide range of animals. I like the inclusion of a skunk and alpaca - not animals you commonly find patterns for! Easy for relative beginners to follow as it also includes a step-by-step guide with photographs for each stitch and for completing each stage of every project.
As a long-time crafter who enjoys crochet and who has recently discovered the joy of creating Amigurumi, this book is delightful. the pictures of steps are helpful, and the directions are clearly written. I read through the patterns and they were clear and succinct. The photographs seemed more photoshopped with backgrounds than other books in this genre, but that did not take away from the animals that are featured. I plan to purchase this title for our library, and will promote it to the right readers.

"This book will show you how to make adorable stuffed animal projects in the popular Japanese style of amigurumi, with bright colors and big, exaggerated features."
This is a book for grown-ups for kids, if you get my meaning. I wouldn't imagine making any of these to keep for myself, although I'm rather partial to this tiny Mama Bird and her nest.
My Goodreads review includes the illustration of:
Mama Bird, nest, baby bird, and eggs
I'm more of a knitter than a crocheter (although I've been known to be crochety!), and I've knitted many little "trauma teddies" for ambulances and hospitals to give to little patients to clutch and hug. I'm sure these would be just as welcome.
All of the stitches and methods needed are well detailed, with lots of photographs to demonstrate exactly how to move the yarn and create stitches and patterns. There are excellent explanations of the names and abbreviations for various stitches so you can understand the patterns.
The koala could be a good little fundraiser to sell, and the rabbit could be a cute Easter bunny surprise.
My Goodreads review includes the illustration of:
Koala and rabbit
There are wild animals, forest animals, farm animals, and pets. Each pattern has the name and location of the person who contributed it, and at the end of the book, they are all listed, along with a few words about where and how they live.
Here's a small, virtual farmyard!
My Goodreads review includes the illustration of:
Cow, chick, and pig
This should make a few fingers itchy to pick up some scraps of yarn and a crochet hook. The instructions seem thorough (I haven't given any a test drive yet), and the personal touch with the artists' details is especially nice. Handcrafts are a very personal gift, after all.
This book has a lot of cute animals to crochet and each one is by a different designer [I think the baby bird in the nest is my favorite]. Geared toward any level of crocheters, beginners will appreciate the detailed instructions, techniques and definitions and experts will enjoy the variety of animal patterns available. The book is well organized and includes an array of clear technique photos. I am not a crocheter so I cannot speak directly to the patterns themselves,
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for access to a review copy in return for an honest reviewer.
I found this book to be very helpful for beginners and experts alike. For beginners, this includes detailed instructions and images, charts, and all manner of notes on each type of stitch necessary and for each amigurumi animal. All the instructions and images are clear and it's easy to understand. All of the animals are absolutely adorable, and I'll definitely be taking notes and trying to make some of them. Overall, a great book!
I would recommend this books for someone with at least basic experience in crocheting. Most of the animals are cure, but there are some uglies in here, that don't really fit. The others do make up for it, though. The instructions are clear and and pictures of the in-progress animal helpful. I will probably try out a lot of them, especially the duck, raccoon and alpacca!
With cute amigurumi, clear picture instructions, well-explained descriptions, these patterns will be easy for anyone to follow!
I fell in love with this book of crochet patterns! The animals, page layout and the photography are perfect. The instructions are clear, the colours pleasing and the animals are simply adorable. I’d be very happy to purchase a paperback copy and in the meantime I’m grateful to Netgalley, publisher, author and contributors for the opportunity to review a digital copy.
Farm and Forest Animals is an adorable tutorial collection with 26 patterns for crochet animals curated by Kristen Rask. Due out 16th Feb 2021 from Quarto on their becker&mayer! imprint, it's 128 pages and will be available in paperback format (earlier edition available in other format).
These designs are adorable and very appealing. The book contains 26 different forest and farm animals including the expected monkey, cow, pig, tortoise, and mouse... and also some rather more unexpected ones including a pilot duck, alpaca, skunk, and a wonderful hedgehog. The projects are from a number of different designers scattered all over the world and the book gives links to their design websites in the appendix.
The book does include a *very* general basic how-to-crochet tutorial, but I imagine that readers unfamiliar with the basic processes of crochet will need some extra help from youtube or a friend/mentor to be able to complete the tutorials in the book.
Each of the tutorial chapters include tools and supplies, basic descriptions, step by step construction tutorial along with multiple clear color photos. All of the animals are very cute and would make perfect gifts. Many of the tutorials also have accessories (the trash cans and fish bones which accompany the cat-gurumi tutorial made me giggle out loud). Templates for sewn/felt details are provided in the back of the book.
Five stars. Really cute patterns.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
A great little book. All the animals look so cute! I’m looking forward to trying some out. I’m a beginner and the instructions look very clear.
Wonderful book of patterns that is beautifully presented. I can’t wait to try the patterns out. They look well written.
Very cute and lovely patterns. The instructions aren't overly complicated and are easily understood. The book is good for beginners as well to start crocheting. Can only recommend!
Cute, easy to understand patterns, and breaks down the crochet process really well. I would have liked to have seen a little more variety and theming. I wouldn't really consider a koala forest or farm?
I absolutely love this book! I am always a bit hesitant about craft books because I often need many visuals to accurately understand how to complete a project. This book did such a wonderful job including pictures and very descriptive details. This is even first-time-crocheter-friendly! The beginning of the book teaches the reader how to use a crochet hook to complete a crochet stitch and other basics stitches. Speaking of basic stitches, that was another thing that I loved - these projects are all fairly easy to complete! There were no varying levels of difficulty. All of these projects were cute and very doable. I would highly recommend for anyone at any level of skill to purchase this book if they are interested in Amigurumi.
This is a really cute book with 26 little amigurumi animals to crochet, written by 26 different artist from around the world. I fell in love with the beaver and off course the little koala - he is just perfect.
Easy to follow directions and a rainbow of colours, these little animals only take a very small amount of wool and short amount of time to make, really sweet.
Just one issue - this book is written with American terminology and they take awhile to translate to UK instructions, but they are so cute it is probably no hard feat..
Cute and easy to follow crochet patterns! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to it being published.
These patterns are SO cute! I can't wait to try some of them out, my kids are going to love them. The easy to follow directions and lots of pictures of each step will be very helpful as well.
--Small Cute Crocheted Animals, Suitable for Beginners--
I received an advanced review copy from the publisher through NetGalley, and here are my thoughts.
The amigurumi animals in this book are mostly small and simple designs, so very suitable for those new to crochet that want to try this craft out.
All the patterns require light worsted (DK) yarn, so again, this will make it more suitable for beginners.
The instructions are clearly presented, and the format is attractive. It includes instructions on how to crochet.
I give it four stars because for me it does not have that "Wow" factor in the designs, which comes from a variety of designers. However, I suggest to use the "Look Inside" feature,, take a look at the animals and decide for yourself.
This would also be a cute book for children learning to crochet and have already mastered the basics.
What an adorable book for new and seasoned crochet enthusiasts! Contains easy instructions for 26 amigurumi patterns to make an array of the cutest farm and forest animals. Amigurumi is the Japanese art of crocheting or knitting small stuffed yarn creatures. And what precious results you get! The photos of completed projects are beautiful and the creatures will touch your heart. Also includes a glossary of helpful terms for newbies. A great guide for crafters who love to crochet!

Thanks to the author, Quarto Publishing Group – becker & mayer!, and NetGalley for the review copy. Opinions are fully mine.
How adorable are these crocheted critters?! With very simple step-by-step instructions you can make yourself a whole host of cute little animals. From a giraffe to cats, from a skunk to a mouse, there's something here for everyone to fall in love with - but it's more likely you'll fall in love with them all! I'm off to find my crochet hooks and toy stuffing!!
My thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley. This review was written voluntarily and is entirely my own, unbiased, opinion.
I choose this book because I’ve being wanting to make amigurumis for a while and it seem like a good book to start. I’ve done crochet before, not much experience with it either, but it was my first time doing amigurumis. I wasn’t disappointed but I did find a few issues with it.
I was able to follow most instructions. I end up doing decent looking animals. They weren’t perfect but, being my first time, I wasn’t really expecting them to be. Even if I did follow all the instructions, I felt like it lacks directions to join the different parts, mostly when it came to the head. That was the hardest part for me. Other than that it was easy to make them.
The animals were cute most of them, some weren’t was adorable as I would like, but overall it was a great book to learn. I have so much fun working with it. Definitely recommend it.
A superb little book of woodland animals. Excellent descriptions and instructions. I’ve been looking for an informative book to learn this art
OMG the duck and the beaver!!! If I can ever figure out how to crochet I would love to make some of these critters! Not a beginners book, but not crazy hard either. Fun for all ages :)
Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read Amigurumi Crochet: Farm and Forest Animals by Kristen Rask. #AmigurumiCrochetFarmandForestAnimals #NetGalley
Amigurumi Crochet: Farm and Forest Animals is a super cute book of patterns to make amigurumi animals. It is suitable for all levels of experience from beginner to more advanced as the book starts with basic instructions on crochet and how to do the basic stitches. There are a variety of patterns for different animals including a fox, a squirrel, mouse, racoon, a monkey and many more. The book is full of bright, colourful pictures and the instructions are easy to follow. The animals are small though and might be a bit fiddly for some. Overall an excellent book perfect for these pandemic days when you are encouraged to be indoors.

Amigurumi Crochet: Farm and Forest Animals by Kristen Rask is a great book of patterns to make adorable amigurumi animals!
The book starts with basic instructions on the different crochet stiches. There are 26 different patterns, including a Koala, Giraffe, Kitten, and Skunk. I look forward to making some these patterns. I'm curious if these patterns will also work using the small rubber bands (the kind that people make bracelets with) because I love creating different things with those!
These patterns seem easy to follow! I'm definitely excited about this book! At the end of the book, there is a list of all of the artists and their websites.
I'm so grateful to Kristen Rask, Quarto Publishing Group – becker & mayer!, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.
Great book full of amigurumi animal patterns. A great variety and I liked that they were all from different people.
I think the patterns would be fine for beginners as well as seasoned crocheters, however i would warn that they are very small little animals when complete. May give you a sore hand if you aren’t used to working with that size!
Thank you for the arc!
This book is beautifully put together. The crochet patterns are adorable. Even though I am a beginner, I can't wait to try them out. The terminology is broken down perfectly for newbies like myself. The pictures are an added bonus.
There are 26 projects in this book, which include projects for crocheting a Monkey, Owl, Dog, Squirrel to name but a few.
The introduction includes materials that are required, plus crochet techniques/stitches with colour photographs to accompany them and an abbreviation chart.
Each project has been created by different artists and includes the materials required along with the expected size it is once made up. It then goes on to the instructions on how to make up the animal - it is divided into a number of stages (ears, eyes, body, etc) and most steps are accompanied with photographic pictures to help with the stitching or shape of the body part.
If you like cute animals to crochet then this is a good book for beginners and those who are looking for something different to crochet.
I received this book from Netgalley in return for a honest review.
Amigurumi Crochet: Farm and Forest Animals is a beautiful book with a lot of pictures.
It has sections about tools and techniques and has several pictures of the stitches used.
The animals are really cute and the instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Each animal is crocheted in multiple pieces that are then attached to each other. They are so cute that it was hard to decide which one to start first.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the free copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I want to thank the author and Netgalley. I love to crochet and I have been doing amigurmi crochet for a few years now and was so excited to be gifted this book. I can't wait to make all these little animals for my nephews and niece. It is really hard to find some actual cute patterns online. The ones I have found I am just not a fan they are just not good enough for me to make. I hope to see more books like this!
Really enjoyed this book! I love making amigurumi figures and animals are always the cutest! Easy to understand and follow along with.
This beautifully presented book takes you on an adventure through farms and forests to meet all the cute critters that live there - and then gives you the pattern so you can make one at home.
A comprehensive beginners guide can be found at the beginning of the book, showing how to make each stitch, how to read a pattern and what the abbreviations in the patterns mean. I feel that the only way this section of the book could be improved was if they were to include a link to video demonstrations for each stitch.
I loved how each pattern is designed by a different artist, and each pattern includes a small bio of the artist.
If you fall in love with the style of a particular artist a section at the back of the book let’s you know where you can find out more about them and their work.
This book would be a perfect gift for the crafter in your life and is appropriate for a variety of ages.
I am a total beginner at crochet, having never previously picked up a hook, but having been given a kit (minus instructions) decided to give it a try.
I found the explanations easy to understand for the most part and imagine that anyone with even the slightest knowledge would have absolutely no trouble following them.
The patterns are simple to follow, with enough detailed information for a complete beginner, yet not too complicated. I tried one of the projects and aside from struggling to get the knack had no problem. There are also more difficult projects, so would suit any skill level.
The toys themselves are cute and whimsical and would be popular with children of all ages.
Great as an introduction to the craft with achievable results that are sure to impress after a little practice.
I thoroughly recommend this book for anyone with an interest in crochet
This book has patterns to crochet 26 cute animals, by different designers. Each pattern has clear instructions, with lots of photographs. I particularly liked the patterns for the monkey, owl, cats, squirrel and the bird with a nest, eggs and a chick!
A collection of cute critters to crochet. The instructions and diagrams are mostly fairly clear, but some of the patterns have bits that are seriously confusing. Example: the bird pattern says to "sew on the beak," but it doesn't tell you how to make the beak. (They seem to mean embroider it.)
It starts with instructions for the basic crochet patterns, but again there are a few bobbles. Because of this, and because of the complexity of the patterns, this is an intermediate level book, not beginner or even advanced beginner.
Recommended for confident crocheters who are looking for amigurumi animal patterns.
