A riveting page turner that I read in one sitting. Very enjoyable read, thank you to netgalley and the publishers for giving me a copy of the book.

Ahhh I loved this book! The action, the sass, the slow burn attraction - everything I want in a story was there.

Alosa is awesome. I love her. I'm a sucker for a strong female lead and she is a force to be reckoned with. I love folklore surrounding sirens and the power they have over men, and loved how well it was intertwined into this book. The romance had the perfect build up and I loved how it didn't dominate the story or change Alosa - despite her feelings she doesn't change who she is. This is the second book by this author I've read and she is quickly becoming a favourite author of mine - I can't wait to read the sequel!

(Thank you to Netgalley and Pushkin Press for an eARC in exchange for an honest review)

This book gave me everything I wanted in a pirate book! It was action-packed, fast-paced and had me hooked the entire time.

The writing flowed well, was easy to read and made me feel as though I was there exploring the seas alongside the fantastic main character, Alosa. She was cutthroat, badass and wouldn't bow down to anyone. Most of the time, when authors try and write strong female leads, they can come across as a little annoying but Alosa was the complete opposite. Instead, she was wild and fierce and one of the best female characters I’ve read in a long time.

The enemies to lover's romance was so so good. There was enough hate and bitterness before the love part that made it believable and it wasn’t rushed. I loved all the side characters, especially Alosa’s crew though I wish that we had seen more of them.

This was a wild pirate adventure that had me hooked from start to finish with fantastic characters and an amazing romance.

I always love pirate's stories with exotic maritime setting, sea creatures, mermaids and dont forget battle at ships! For years Pirates of Caribbean become my favourite and I always yearning to find another well built Pirates story. And Tricia Levenseller delivered it.

In this story the author give us Alosa, a young pirate captain with unfortunate girls as teamcrew. She gain their respect with her loyalties, attitudes and unique abilities. I love this MC since her first appearance. Her narrative is seductive, suited with her wicked mind and cunning actions. Our male MC is less interesting than Alosa but I still can smell the potency of their building chemistry. I am glad the author make their relationship growing slowly but tease us with all those tension of potential. On plotline side I think still feel lack with action but I think she make space to epic ending in second book. I know this story could be better.

Overall I enjoyed my time experience with this book. I highly recommend it for readers who love strong and badass heroine with grey morally compass. Thank you Netgalley and Pushkin Press, Pushkin Children's Books for let me read this copy. I am grateful and my thoughts are my own. This book will publish at 29th Sept 2022.

The story is very simple, but despite this I found the book super exciting even if basic.
The novel is a YA fantasy, simple, dynamic, but which works very well in my opinion, demonstrating the fact that sometimes you don't need to make big turns to write something beautiful.
You will probably say, why did you read it? For that fact there? Yes. I admit it. I am guilty. I read * pirate * and * siren * and broke down. Exactly why are there no more such books? I find the historical but also fictional figure of the pirates super interesting, combined with that of the mythical figure of the mermaids you really get your fill! But can you imagine a high fantasy with pirates and mermaids? The epic.
In fact, the author started a bit from this same premise of mine for writing history. As a young woman she was very passionate about Pirates of the Caribbean (come on who not) and she wondered why there was no book in the YA and fantasy version of this type. You know that I do it myself. And you did well dear Tricia.
But let's talk about concrete things that I know so much that this is the interesting part! What's in this book? Let's talk about tropes that are the ones that catch our eye!
- pirates & mermaids
- adventure then
- enemies to lover
- forced proximity
- one bed trope
- betrayals

Let's say that the book focuses on a plan, on what it is and how it is carried out, because we immediately understand that Alosa's goal is one and will do everything to achieve it, even if this means making her suffer and make her suffer. people she is fond of.
The romance in this book is there, it is not the super central part, but it is there, also because I believe that it is and will be very important for the development especially of the female protagonist, who certainly in the second volume (which I have to read will find herself in However, despite this, the romance is really very cute and their own two sparks!

"I'm a pirate," I remind him.
"Yes. I just can't figure out if you're a good pirate or a really good pirate."
Super interesting albeit a bit * traditional * as the mermaid figure developed. I find it a super cool figure and element to put in a fantasy!
What I liked about this book is that it comes unassuming, gives you all your favorite tropes one after the other and everything works fine. You know, when a book works and entertains me 100% (even this as THV I really read it in a few days) it has the ticket to stay inside my heart.
The thing that I also liked about this book is that she is the protagonist who is the most calculating one, she is her plan and she is determined to carry it out, whatever the cost. Nothing, when there is a bit of this corrupt part in a book I always like, but it's super interesting to see it applied to the female protagonist that we don't initially expect. It's kind of the same dynamic that is probably also seen in Throne of Glass and The Bridge Kingdom! Probably why I liked it!
Nothing, I really liked this book for its simplicity and I can't wait to continue with the second one!

A great adventure filled with unexpected twists and turns but totally engaging. I look forward to the next one. This would make a great class read and would be an excellent stimulus for adventure writing.

This was a page turner, it was exciting and I really enjoyed it. Alosa was an amazing, strong main character full of attitude and the romance didn't overpower the plot. As most of Alosa's plans went as she wanted it felt like she met her match in Riden. Lots of likeable and very dislikable characters, the plot twist was good and unexpected, also the supernatural of the sirens was very nicely slotted in. The pirates were a rowdy bunch yet some seemed like decent men and some made my skin crawl. Overall easy to read and a very well done pirate story. I hope in the next book she gets out from under her fathers thumb.

Tricia Levenseller is a great author, so when I started Daughter of the Pirate King I had high expectations. This YA pirate heist debut is filled with tension, danger and enemies-to-lovers filled banter.
In the beginning, it can be easily seen that Alosa, the heroine of the duology, is the daughter of an infamous pirate. She purposely gets captured by an enemy ship playing the infurating prisoner by day and an investigative thief by night.
Tricia does a fantastic job of showing sexism and misogyny among shipmates and in general among the people in this novel. Alosa is a very strong and independent girl who has been taught to rely on only herself but to the detriment of lacking love and affection from her father and growing up fairly lovely in a world where she is deemed useful to the men in her life.
In my opinion, although the slow story of the heist and mission itself, more importantly it is about Alosa finding herself, her family and finding her place in the world where she is more than a useful asset. Although the romance is slow throughout, her developing relationship with Riden is a further discovery for her. He is reassuring and builds her self-confidence through the duology. Although he is supportive, their relationship begins as enemies where Riden is one of her captors! They back-and-forth is written brilliantly and adds a lightheartedness to a sometimes serious plot.
If you loved Pirates of the Carribbean, Black Sail and other pirate movies and TV shows then this is perfect. Although it is advertised as Young Adult, I think it can be enjoyed by New Adults and adults. Why put a restrictive age limit on a great book?

Let's talk about Daughter of The Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller
First, thank you Netgalley for this ARC!

Alosa is the daughter of the King of All Pirates, and she is sent by her father on a mission to find maps that would lead to a legendary treasure. To do this she will pretend to be captured by her enemy and will end up making contact with Riden in one way or another.
The plot is very simple, but despite this I found the book super exciting.

You know I don't think I have ever read a book about pirates, and a lady pirate at that!

Alosa, the Princess, the daughter of the pirate king..a fearsome opponent but still with a heart.... 'And while I can kill evil men without guilt, the suffering of others pains me as well as it does them.'

Fake captured by a rival group of pirates, Alosa meets Riden on her secret mission. And pirate jaunts ensue!

Well shiver me timbers. (Sorry about that but I just had to add something cheesy in my review!) this was a fab read and I am so looking forward to the next book. I really hope we get to see more of the Pirate King though!

I NEED BOOK TWO RIGHT NOW.
This book isn’t for everyone but it was definitely for me, I loved it so much😫
It’s ennemies to lovers and he falls first!!!
Risen is so sweet and Alosa is so fierce, I love them both🥺
I usually don’t like short books but the execution in this one was so good, it’s fast past and twisty, it’s just perfect when you’re feeling a bit slumpy.
I just couldn’t stop smiling, I’m so sad I’ll never read it for the first time again😭

I absolutely loved Daughter of the Pirate King! In fact, I couldn't put it down and had to read it in one sitting.

The story centres on Alosa, a 17-year-old, total badass of a pirate who concocts an elaborate plan to retrieve an ancient hidden map - the key to a legendary treasure trove. Part of that plan is getting deliberately captured by her enemies so that she can search their ship. As she continues to outsmart them, Alosa faces one unavoidable challenge - her captor, Riden, who is unexpectedly clever and annoyingly attractive.

What you'll find:

Ahoy Maties!🍹
Climb on board and tighten the ropes, you are in for one hell of a story. ⚓️
The world-building will have you smelling sea salt in your room and scheming where to find buried treasure in your living room.
Wielding imaginary swords with enemies and drinking rum with the cunning and most superstitious of crews, this book engulfs you into the wonderful and adventure-full life of a pirate. I couldn’t get enough.

🗺We follow Alosa, Daughter of THE Pirate King, who was sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map- and in the process had to be fake kidnapped by the enemy pirate crew where the map is stashed. The perfect opportunity to find this legendary treasure trove. All that stands in her way now are her captures, among them a unexpectedly clever, kind and attractive first mate, Riden. But alas, this pirate princess has no intent to fail, she has been trained for this all her life. Walking the plank is not in the plans, this Pirate has some tricks up her sleeve.🗺

💰Yo Ho Ho you scallywags, let me tell you-this book was amazing. Shiver me Timbers. I was hooked from page one. Alosa is the definition of witty and badass, and the portrayal of the daily life’s of pirates was captured so skillfully I was completely transported. Grinning from ear to ear about the bickering, the adventures and the friendships formed, I honestly couldn’t ask for more. Oh my stars, I can’t wait to jump into book two. 🌊

If you love pirates, badass heroine females, sexy first mates, a mission on which fate is determined and secret reveals, you will love this book. Not to forget to mention tension and heat that comes with this story, you will struggle to put this book down. This book is a treasure itself. 💎

This is a fast paced, action packed fantasy book. The book is written with a light humorous style. Pirates, sirens, treasure, fights, a bit of romance, kidnapping, are all wound into a story that reminded me of Sarah J Maas’ early books. Perfect for YA readers. Alosa is a strong female Pirate Captain, with more skills, power and history than first glance might bring. Can she complete the task her father The Pirate King has set her? Read the book and find out. This is book one in a series, but can be read on its own. But I certainly want to read book two. Thank you to Pushkin Press and NetGalley for the ARC. The views expressed are all mine.
