I wouldn't normally request a picture book from NetGalley, since I am not a childhood educator, parent or grandparent, but when I saw the charming Who Will Adopt This Pet by Melanie Middien I could not resist. This is a charming book, with fun illustrations and a rhyming scheme that I could imagine reading with and to a child who was too young to read. It has the underlying message that a pet doesn't have to be perfect to be perfect for you, overlaid with really fun illustrations and text. I would loved to have had this in my hands as a paper, rather than e-book.
This story takes young readers on a touching journey of compassion and acceptance. A boy and a girl visit a pet shelter in search of their ideal pet but come across a scruffy, unloved dog with peculiar traits – toothless, farty, yappy, and three-legged. Instead of turning away, they embark on a mission to find a loving home for their newfound furry friend. The story beautifully portrays the importance of kindness and empathy, showing children the value of embracing differences and seeing the beauty in every living being. With delightful illustrations and a touching narrative, this book is a must-read for young readers, leaving them with a heartwarming message about love, friendship, and the power of second chances.
As soon as I opened the book, I was hooked by the boy and girl's quest to find a new pet, which leads them to a scruffy, three-legged dog with some funny quirks. The story is not just about finding a home for a furry friend but also about discovering the true meaning of compassion and acceptance. It's a captivating tale that teaches children the importance of embracing differences and seeing the beauty in all living creatures, no matter their appearance. The charming illustrations and heartwarming narrative make this children's book an absolute gem that every young reader should experience.
Oh my goodness what a great message to send. The book was similar in vein to the wonky donkey and I loved it. I can’t wait to read this to my own kiddo and want to recommend it to our local animal rescue. Animals are so pure and I love that this book urges you to look past the face value.
"Who Will Adopt This Pet" is a sad but all too real book. It is about a shelter dog and two kids go to everyone they see on the street and try their best to get someone to adopt him. He is stinky, has fleas, has a silly bark and is missing teeth, and nobody wants him. They bring him back to the shelter at the end of the day and the worker brings out a perfect poodle that smells good, can play piano and has shiny teeth. They want to adopt that one until they hear a little yip and turn to the 'rough-looking' dog. The two kids realized that they couldn't leave him and that they were going to adopt him even if he wasn't the most perfect thing.

I loved this book so much. It’s a sweet story about adopting pets from a shelter. It made me think of the wonderful dogs, my family has adopted over the years. It made me tear up a little. I would definitely purchase this book for the kids in my life.
