Description

When a neighbour from hell comes to a sticky end, a plucky cop refuses to accept the obvious.

Miles Kenworth loves to play his rock music at a deafening volume. The other residents of his apartment block are not so keen.

One day, after hearing a commotion, Miles’ next-door neighbour discovers his body lying in a pool of blood.
Standing next to the corpse is Jake, the man who lives upstairs.

It should be an open and shut case for DS Sunita Roy. But with Jake vehemently protesting his innocence, she decides to dig deeper.

Most of the residents wanted Miles shut up for good. But was it really Jake who flipped, or was he just in the wrong place at the wrong time?

This murder mystery was the fifth book in the Roy and Roscoe series, and I thought it looked like the type of book that I would usually enjoy.

I wouldn't say that it was a cosy exactly, but maybe with some elements of a cosy. It was, very comfortable reading, but also a page turner. The chapters were short, so I found myself reading one, then another, until I had finished the whole book. I hadn't read any of the previous books in this series, but I liked the detectives and would probably read about them again.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a free copy to review.

This is the fifth book in the ‘Roy and Roscoe’ series by author Tony Bassett’s although it is my first read.

Lord Culverton’s son Miles Kenworth is murdered following a neighbourly dispute over loud music. His skull was cut to pieces with an axe. Residents had seen Jake Harris knocking down Miles’ door brandishing a bat. The case appears to be straight forward for DS Sunita Roy but there is more to this crime than first impressions.

DS Sunita Roy is not fooled by the apparent simplicity of the case and feels the need to investigate further despite Jake’s mounting evidence. Sunita uncovers secrets and motives that beckon the question was Jake just caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time or is he actually guilty after all.

Miles Kenworth was far from the ideal neighbour and was not liked by many residents which throws up other suspects. DE Sunita Roy is a very good character and her determination to uncover the truth help make this novel an addictive read, Well written, expertly paced and an interesting plot make this a very enjoyable read.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and The Book Folks for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

A story that if you like meticulous police procedures, painstaking detection work will keep you enthralled and entertained.

We have an aristocratic family living in a Hall complete with the requisite Lord, but dogged by tragedy. The elder son went missing in Spain years ago and now the youngest son, estranged from the family, living almost incognito as a sound technician, is found brutally murdered. The suspects are obvious to many, except to D S Sunita Roy who doesn’t take the easiest path and likes to dig deeper, not always supported by her colleagues or superiors.

Many suspects later, an overseas enquiry concluded with a surprising outcome the murder enquiry was concluded and the correct people were behind bars.

Lots to keep the reader locked in, this was a really good read. I’ll be looking out for the other books by this author. I also liked how at the end of some chapters the writer had an interesting tidbit of information, totally unexpected.
