Description
Brigadier General Jonathan Carleton has pledged his allegiance to the cause of liberty, his service to General George Washington, and his heart to fiery Elizabeth Howard. But when Washington takes command of the American forces, he orders Carleton to undertake a perilous journey deep into Indian country and persuades Elizabeth to continue her work as a spy.
Captured and enslaved by the Seneca, Carleton is stripped of everything but his faith in God. At last rescued by the Shawnee, he is taken into deep Ohio Territory and adopted as the warrior White Eagle. When he rises to become war chief, he is drawn unwillingly into a bitter war against the white settlers who threaten to overrun the Shawnee’s ancestral lands.
Meanwhile, as General William Howe gathers his forces to attack the outmatched Continental Army in New York City, Elizabeth despairs of ever learning Carleton’s fate. But as the western frontier explodes into flame, the name of White Eagle begins to spread beyond the borders of Ohio Territory.
Advance Praise
"J. M. Hochstetler strikes again! Native Son picks up where Daughter of Liberty left off and doesn’t let go of the reader even beyond the last word on the last page. Ms. Hochstetler has crafted a story full of intrigue, romance, and heart-racing action, all woven around the most accurately portrayed historical events and settings this reader has ever seen. Her characters—main and secondary—come alive on the page and stay with the reader long after the book is over. The spiritual conflict is both touching and challenging. J. M. Hochstetler is a skilled author whose style engages and allows the reader to get lost in 1775...and makes me want to beg for more! I can’t wait to read the next installment." —Kaye Dacus, author of The Ransome Trilogy
"Native Son is an intensely moving story, impeccably researched and excellently written. It is an intricate look into some aspects of the birth of our nation, and the struggles and temptations faced by two unforgettable characters. J. M. Hochstetler expertly weaves a tale of historical fiction with a romance that must survive the trials and dangers of the times. Outstanding!" —Erika Osborn, Christian Book Previews.com
"Native Son is not only meticulously researched, but is an engaging story as well. J. M. Hochstetler has taken a thrilling time in American history and made it come alive with living, breathing characters that a reader can cheer onward. "Tense moments abound in this tale of intrigue, adventure and romance set against the compelling backdrop of the birth of a nation." —Romantic Times BookClub
"Joan Hochstetler has done it again. Native Son, a sequel to Daughter of Liberty, is a great historical novel and sets forth events occurring at the outset of the War of the Revolution. . . This book is the second book in the American Patriot Series. I found it to be an accurate representation of history and recommend it to lovers of early American history. I’m convinced that a third book in this series will be forthcoming and I’ll be looking for it." —Robert H. Goss, Round Table Reviews

I accidentally hit this button the other day when requesting another book.
I have read this one before and it was/is very good.
I was lost within this story as soon as I opened it's pages. Lots going on and the scenery was described so well that I could picture it and feel like I was with the characters in this story.
This author has done very well and her research is explicit.
I didn't want the story to end.
Slightly less good than the first book and still very transportive however it moves in a significantly slower pace than the first installment. Other than that it's still perfect historical fiction book enriched with details about the historical setting bound to capture the attention and appreciation of anyone who loves history as much as the author clearly does!
Despite the detail the story never got boring - the writing style is simple yet woven beautifully, the characters fleshed out really well with complex personalities and problems and the plot while not fast moving is bound to keep one at the edge of their sit. The romance was also a delight to read! I adored this so much!!!
